What is ICT?

ICT (Information and Communication Technology) strand is under in Technical- Vocational Livelihood (TVL) track of K-12 Curriculum. One of the major subject of this strand is CSS or Computer System Servicing. This course is design to develop skills and knowledge of a Computer Technician. In Computer System Servicing (CSS) course you will expect common competencies such as assemble and disassemble of a computer hardware, installation, configuring and diagnosing computer system and networks.

On the first semister of ICT in grade 11, the teacher will teach you about the History of Computers from the 1st Generation of computers which is vacuum tubes as the basic components for memory and circuitry for CPU (Central Processing Unit) down to the 4th and 5th Generation of Computers (1975 – 1990 -present) that use VLSI (Very-Large-Scale Integration) chips for both CPU and memory. The VLSI technology allowed billions of transistors on a single chip. And for the 2nd semister you will learn proper typing hand position which means in a keyboard and also some topics like understanding file size (kb, mb, gb, tb and etc…), Memorizing the parts of the system unit and and atlast assemble and disassemble of the computer hardware.

For the 1st semister of grade 12 was a recall for the topic for grade 11 which is memorizing parts, history of computers, assembling computer harware and etc. Then the new topic in grade 12 is installation of OS or Operating System (windows 10). After installing OS, install the drivers and troubleshooting computers, from these you will learn thr basic troubleshooting techniques. And for the 2nd semister or the last semister will challenge you because the topic is Server.There are many Server OS but Windows server 2016 is used. Windows Server 2016 is a server operating system developed by Microsoft as a part of the Wibdows NT family of operating system, developed concurrently with windows 10. But first you have to remember all of the topics from grade 11 until in 1st semister of grade 12 before you learn Windows Server. You will learn new topic like different types of cables (UTP, STP, fiber optic and etc.) And you have to know the UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) cabling standards the T568A wiring standards and the T568B wiring standards.

And after that windows server is up. In installing Windows server 2016 it is just like installing windows 10 OS. Windows Server has server management which you can create/ install DHCP Services and ADDS which is required to your Server. You will also experience Work Immersion/ job order that can apply your knowledge, skills and attitude. It is worth it because you can take NCII certificate from TESDA if you are good enough in this course. So from now on follow your dreams and work hard for it.
